SUMMARY:Virtual Coffee with an Expert - Reinforcement learning with probabilistic safety guarantees
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Jana Tumová  \nAbstract: \nReinforcement learning (RL) is a powerful approach to decision making under uncertainty. However\, it is often difficult to validate the resulting policy with high confidence. In this talk\, we overview a recently popular two-step approach to safe reinforcement learning: in the first step\, formal verification identifies the set of actions that guarantee safety with desired probability\, and the second step integrates this into RL algorithm to constrain the exploration of the agent. Probabilistic guarantees thus get transferred to the trained policy during training and execution. We will discuss our results in problems inspired by urban autonomous driving involving multiple traffic participants\, where desired safety properties are expressed in linear temporal logic (LTL). We will demonstrate in simulation of an unsignalized intersection that the resulting policy exhibits strong safety guarantees and scales well. \nThis event will be held via Zoom. Register for the event below. A link to the meeting room will be sent out to attendees before the event starts.   \nZoom link here: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/66805342181

SUMMARY:Inspirational Talk by Edward Lee
DESCRIPTION:*** Please Note: The event has moved to a new venue. Room M3\, Brinellvägen 64 *** \nEdward A. Lee\, Professor of the Graduate School and Robert S. Pepper Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley\, will join us for an Inspirational talk. Professor Lee’s research group studies cyber-physical systems\, which integrate physical dynamics with software and networks. His focus is on the use of deterministic models as a central part of the engineering toolkit for such systems. He has led the development of several influential open-source software packages\, notably Ptolemy and its various spinoffs. \n\nAbout the talk \nUsing Time and Timestamps for Deterministic Distributed Software\nConcurrent and distributed software based on publish-and-subscribe\, actors\, and service-oriented architectures are sometimes used to realize distributed cyber-physical systems. Broadly\, these mechanisms compose software components that have private state and communicate with each other via message passing and/or remote procedure calls. However\, the underlying mechanisms are less deterministic than they could be\, and for some cyber-physical systems\, the resulting unpredictability is debilitating. In this talk\, I described some simple challenge problems that are common in distributed cyber-physical systems and extremely difficult to solve using any of these methods. I  offer an alternative model of computation that we call “reactors” that solves these problems simply and elegantly and that is able to leverage decades of results from the real-time systems community. The reactors model is being implemented in a coordination language called Lingua Franca\, which extends messages with logical timestamps that provide a semantic ordering. By leveraging synchronized clocks\, an efficient distributed implementation guarantees determinacy when network latencies and clock synchronization error remain below assumed bounds. \n  \nBook your seat below! \n  \nConference Room: M3\, Brinellvägen 83 \n

SUMMARY:CWE - Simulation for Automated Driving
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: José Manuel Gaspar SánchezAbstract: In the presentation\, we will talk about the Simulation for automated vehicles (AV) and the state of the art platform KTH has developed. Designing and verifying AV’s requires an effective integration of multiple models and tools. Jose will cover the modular AD-EYE platform which integrates open source software and commercial tools to support architecture and algorithm design and verification for AV’s. Current developments include for example a methodology for elicitation of critical scenarios\, fault-injection  and test automation\, and deployment of the same control software on the KTH research concept vehicle (for which type approval is currently applied for). Finally\, we will go through the future plans for both\, the development and the usage of the platform. The platform is receiving increased attention\, see this news article. \nSignup by using the RSVP function below! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:The 7th Scandinavian Conference on System and Software Safety
DESCRIPTION:System and software safety in electronic systems is becomingincreasingly central in many industries and indeed as part ofoften critical societal infrastructure. The systems become evermore complex\, connected and autonomous and the software continues to grow. This poses many challenges even for matureorganizations\, requiring approaches that go beyond establishedbest practices. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Scandinavian conference on safety critical systems andsoftware has become a central meeting place for Scandinaviansafety experts from industry\, public and academic organizations. It is an opportunity to share experiences and make new contacts. The conference features a first day with distinguished keynotes\,industrial and research presentations\, followed by a second dayof parallel workshops\, advanced presentations and tutorialsabout different challenges\, techniques\, standards and methods. At the end of the first day the conference dinner providesopportunities to establish further contacts among the participants.

SUMMARY:Workshop on SOTIF and functional safety concept for ADAS and automated driving
DESCRIPTION:It has already been an agreement that ISO 26262 is insufficient for the functional safety of ADAS and automated driving systems due to the introduction of AI into automotive embedded systems. As a compensation\, SOTIF finally released its first version early this year. The purpose of this workshop is to collect safety experts from OEMs\, suppliers and academia to discuss on the following questions. How does SOTIF compensate ISO 26262?How should we adopt SOTIF to improve the functional safety concept of ADAS and automated driving systems in terms of architecture and development methodology? Is SOTIF enough? How should SOTIF be improved? \n\n\n\n13:00 – 13:10 Introduction to the workshop                             Xinhai Zhang\, KTHSession 1\, Invited PresentationsEach presentation takes 40 minutes followed by 10 minutes Q&A13:10 – 14:00 Automotive functional safety with ISO 26262 and 21448                             Anders Sandberg\, Aptiv SE14:00 – 14:50 Electric Site Project Functional Safety?
